Well, it also means a long weekend for me. Too bad a still have a lot of work to do.

Anyways, Independence Day’s the time we got our freedom from the Spanish Colonizers as declared by Emilio Aguinaldo in Cawit, Cavite. This reminded me of some things I learned from history class. Spanish colonizers, with their coercive and deceitful tongues, manage their way into occupying our lands. And when they got a firm grip on our people they forced upon a lot of things our culture did not really recognized. Although it was good at first because our ancestors had the option to choose, converting people to Christianity became a requirement, which again created a bad image (see my previous post).

They insisted and clothing our women (which by they were already properly clothed; still the Spanish thought of our clothes as “obscene.”), changing our ancestors’ traditions into Spanish beliefs. The Spanish friars dictated what was unholy and holy; which was seen as pure or malign.

I just hope that now that we are free and we can decide on our own, we could give a more appropriate reaction to what is needed by our country.
